Multi-Tasking – A Waste of Time

Up In the Air

Up In the Air

I am not a believer in the “politically correct” term “multi-tasking”. It is a term that is thrown around a lot, like everyone ought to do two or three things at the same time. That is in all probably incorrect. I know for me to do something well, I have to focus on the task at hand. For those who are trying to multi-task, what they are actually doing is stopping one activity before completing the task in order to start a second or third activity. This starting and starting does two thing in my view. 1) It takes longer to do the task at hand because of something I call “transition-time”… that is, the time that it takes to stop one task and refocus on the next task and the next task. Cumulatively, it will take longer to complete multiple tasks in this fashion than if we were able to devote our complete focus and concentration on a single task before moving on the the next task. Now I know that it is not always possible to complete a task before having to deal with another task. All I am saying is that in an “ideal world”, it would take less time to complete those task if we were able to devote all of our resources on a single task before moving on. By doing it this way, we avoid “transition time” altogether. I don’t see how any reasonable person could say differently if they were to apply reason and logic rather than emotion to their analysis. Now, it may be that some people transition better than other folks, and have less “transition time” between task, but they have transition-time none-the-less.

  1. the second thing that would be accomplished by avoiding “multi-tasking” is that it would reduce the overwhelming frustration that employees feel when they are unable to keep up with the work load. They, in fact, would fair better in completing their assigned task because they would have more time to complete tasks. They avoid “transition time” altogether.

Hiding in the Shadows Poem

Hiding in the Shadows

Hiding in the Shadows

In life sometimes we lose our place,
And in our hearts we are left with just an empty space.
We only concentrate on the loneliness and pain,
And a glimpse of our reflection reveals
a person ordinary and plain.

We forget about all the people’s lives we have touched,
And instead think that our own life doesn’t amount to much.
But it’s amazing what the mind hides when the soul is lost,
And how many excuses to avoid achievement that we can exhaust.

For a person such as you harbors so much potential,
But in order for it to flourish self confidence is essential.
You possess charisma and compassion that is shared so freely,
And a radiant beauty that only you can not see.
And when the time comes and you finally appreciate who you are,
This will be the day the world inherits it’s most brilliant star.

So my friend never lose yourself in another’s shadow,
Let your own talents and abilities allow you to grow,
And that empty space in your heart will overflow.

History of Labor Day

Things have a reason and Labor Day is no exception.  It’s meaning is to celebrate the contributions that labor, the working efforts of Men and Women in America, have made to the American Economy.  Without a doubt the American Economy is the greatest economic system in the history of the world.  It is the freedoms that Americans enjoy that allows them to pursue their dreams, or as the constitution reads… ” Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness”.

Are You Fearful of Losing Your Job?

Lost JobMany people fear losing their job, but why?

They depend upon a job to pay the rent, put food on the table, keep from losing their car. These are just a few of the reasons.

Truth is, people lose jobs all the time. Maybe their company is “downsizing” and laying off folks because of a bad economy. Perhaps the company changed the way they did things and found a way to use technology with a machine or computer to do your job and, in fact, your job was done away with. Or as was the case with me, illness made it impossible for you to work an 8 to 5 job or carry out your job’s duties.

Regardless of the reason, the results were the same. The income stopped. Kind or reminds me of an old saying… “it’s not the fall that kills you, it’s the sudden stop”.

The real question that everyone should be asking is “what can I do to prevent the income from stopping”? Well, if you are like most folks, you never ask this question. After all, if you have a job and getting a paycheck every two weeks, what’s there to talk about? That kind of thinking is akin to tipping around on a ledge of a high-rise building and never thinking about the end result were you to make a misstep and fall 20 stories. You have to consider the potential consequences. It does no good to wait until your feet leaves the ledge and all you have under them is air.

We’re talking about the difference between “pro-active” and “re-active” posturing. And that requires thinking a head. Pro-active posturing says “I am going to take steps to make sure I don’t fall”. Re-active posturing says that I’ll worry about that if it ever happens… translation… “I’m going to scream like H _ _ L all the way down. Which kind of person do you want to be?

Remember I said I lost my job because of an illness. One thing I didn’t lose was all of my income. Why? Because my income was a residual income and continued even if I didn’t work.

So about now your thinking “what kind of job pays you even if you can’t work”? The answer… a job that you control. And that would be a job where you were the boss. We’re talking about a business of your own… a real business that you control… not one of those “pie in the sky” network marketing deals one of your friends wanted you to join. A Real Life Business that Pays you Based on Your Results.

What would that be?

There are many. You could buy rental property, if you had the money to invest. You could buy an existing “brick and mortar business, again, if you had the money. And even if you did, it could go south on you in a bad economy. You would be the boss and have a greater degree of control but that might mean quitting your current job and working for three years for nothing until you got the business off the ground, so to speak. Who can afford to do that?

You don’t have to.

Let’s explore my personal situation. I lost my job because my wife got sick and I had to stay at home to provide for her health care needs. I’m her personal care giver. In my previous job, I sold insurance. I went out in the public, met with potential clients and hopefully, sold them insurance. The great thing about that job is that it not only paid me when I made a sale, it paid me the 2, 3, 4 etc year when those policies renewed. Thus, I continued to receive an income even if I didn’t work. And it’s a good thing too. Where would I be today if my income had stopped?

The bad thing about that job is two fold. 1) I can no longer do it and 2) my renewals die when I die.

Today, I have changed professions. I work in a specialty field where I introduce business to a Referral Marketing System designed to double and triple those business referrals… the life-blood of any business. It is a form of “non-traditional” advertising. As such, we don’t have to convince them to spend additional money… rather, show them a better way to spend some of the advertising dollars they are already spending that is more effective. Truth is, we have no competition and the business do not even know that a Referral Marketing System exist.

So, where do you come in on all of this.

One, don’t quit your job. You depend upon it for your financial needs. Two, partner with my organization on a part-time basis and build an income that will pay you today, tomorrow and follow you into retirement and is will-able beyond the grave.

Your first step… contact me and tell me you want more information.

American Dream – American Nighmare

Reach For the Light

Reach For the Light

You don’t have to look very far to see those who started out life with the best of intensions.  The had it planned out of sorts, but something went wrong. Your plans didn’t materialize.  When that happens and it does happen more time than not, you can do one of two things.

  1. You can either examine why your plan didn’t work out, change the plan a bit and then proceed onward or
  2. You can give up on your dream.

If you are to succeed, you must recognize that thing will not go according to plan.  You should expect it.  After all, you are trying to do something that you have never done before. Why should you expect it to work out the first time out of the gate?  That would be a little naive I would think.

If you give up, it will get easier to give up altogether.  That’s when you get negative on life and that’s when the “dream” turns out to be a “nightmare”.  No one enjoys living a defeated life… so don’t.

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”  2 Corithians chapter 4 – READ THE WHOLE CHAPTER  Click Here

God did not put on your heart something only to let you down in realizing that dream. God does want to test your faith… he doesn’t want you to achieve that dream on your own.. after all, where’s the Glory to God in you going it alone.  No My Friend… you are to rely on him is all things… especial those dreams that he alone put into your heart.

Achieve the dream and reap the benefits and blessing it can provide, but let the Glory be God’s alone.  amen
